The salary of a tattoo artist varies from area to area. An artist will charge anywhere between $80-$150 on average, with some charging up to $285 an hour. This seems like a lot, but the expenses for doing the art, getting your name out, shop cut, and so much more, we average about 50 an hour. This also has to play on weather, name and popularity of the shop, season, and so many things. It is really hard to determine how much a tattoo artist makes, but it's safe to bet that we as artists are not having to take on a second job if we are any good...
That is in my shop, the 60% would go to someone with a 'name' in the business that people would know......There are places not to far from me that only pay their artists 35 to 40%.......They say they make it up in volume........
Besides it ain't all about the money, you really need to have a love for it, truly a passion...............Tatubaron
Tattoo artists get paid by the tattoos they do. They are "independent" meaning that they charge according to the tattoo. A simple one may run a few hundred while a very big and detailed one could cost several hundred or a thousand. The ones I have gone to only want cash paid at the time the tattoo is done. So, what they make is determined by how much they work, how good their work is, if they have a reputation as a "top" artist (they can charge more, like, the fellows on LA Ink), how detailed their work is, if it is in color or black and white, and the subject matter. If you are a bad tattoo artist you would make less than a good one.
There are numerous factors, but the biggest ones are: How good an artist are you? How quickly can you do a tatoo well? Are you working for yourself or for a company?
Most of the artists I know work on comission only and have to help pay for the shop, as well as their own supplies (ink, needles, tools, etc) and while they make decent money, its hardly likely to get you rich quick.
Haha. i deleted you answer, But anyways its like a hundred dollars a tattoo depending on how big it is.
this all depends of the skill and job experience the artist has.
