Compared with an incandescent bulb, a fluorescent tube uses about 80% less electrical power for the same amount of brightness.

A 150W incandescent can be replaced by a 30W tube. If it's on for 200 hours a month the saving is 200 x 120 watt-hours or 24 kilowatt-hours, saving about £3.60.
