Well, I am currently in the program and will finish on June 11, 2008, Hospitals all pay 20.36 as we speak however in 2009 or 2010 (forgot) the HEU (Hospital Employees Union) contract ends with healthcare workers so Im guessing after negotiations SPD (Sterile Processing Dept) staff will be earning close to or above 21 dollars an hour. I belive it is going up because they had a 15 percent wage cut over the last 7 years and its going back up thank god. So I think we will be earning about 35-45 thousand a year depends really on how much overtime you do but in a basic month you get 150 hours because they don't pay you for your 30 min break although you get an hour break on 8 hour shifts and ALL OVERTIME is DOUBLE TIME!!! and they have higher pay depending on what shift you work (Evening differentials) so if you work late you make a lil more. But I have only talked to staff at a Vancouver coastal health authority hospital but the HEU is all the same in BC.

There is not a Sterile Processing Tech school in San Diego- or anywhere else nearby. I've heard from a friend who took an online class (Sterile Processing Hybrid Program) from Cornerstone College. .
A sterile processing tech is one who either works in the Sugery dept. or central sterile processing dept (CSPD) and is responsible for cleaning of the surgical instrumentation and repackaging of the instr.and sterilizing them. Along with many more duties that deal with sugery.
Depending on where you live. Pay scale is from $12.00 to $18.00/hr. This also depends on how long you have done the job (experience) and wheather you are certified or not. I have been working as a CS tech for 10 years (in a small town) and I earn $16.00/hr.
