Hello-to be blunt you could have just googled "what is a surgical technician" and about 100 things would have came up from your search. But anyway, to make it brief-a surgical technician assists the physican in surgerys. You have to know and be familiar with all of the surgical instruments that are used in surgery for when the surgeon needs them to be handed to him. Also, since the whole operating room needs to remain strerilized during surgery, if the doctor has sweat dripping from his forehead and asks you to wipe it away with a gauze swab, then you have to do it. Your main job is making sure the Operating room or (OR) is kept sterile at all times. You are not responisible for cleaning up the operating room, that is the job of the "maitenence crew" of the hospital. But, you might have to over see that the maitenence crew did and make sure they're doing it the right way. I hope I answered your question for you. If you want to look up what they make, or what any career makes for that matter, you can just go to www.salary.com. That website is great for finding out what occupations make what money. Take care. Good luck with it.
