I got one for expired plates (2 months expired) I got the ticket on 1/17/2009 and it was for $216….. :\ crossing the i90
The officer was very suspicious of me, and really looked into the car. Shone his light into the glove box, when I was getting the registration. Stuck his head in when I opened the window to smell my breath. Noticed my girlfriends drivers license in my wallet (as I was carrying it for her, and she was with me)
He went back to his car for 15 min, came back with the ticket. I asked him if he would give me a warning, since I really had no idea they were expired (my first time owning a car). He said he wouldn't since it was too far out (2 months) and it wouldn't be fair to others who he gave tickets to.
I think he could have been nicer, I felt like a criminal. It is just expired plates, take it easy police dude..
I am a working professional, doing my masters…. There are many more bad guys out there you, can save that kind of treatment for them.
I think traffic cops are the ones with egos, and were undermined when they were young, and they try to get back at those that made fun of them during their adolescence. Cops here(USA) need to have more discretion, and treat civilians like humans. They are here to serve the tax abiding citizens, and provide a service to them. Not ruin their nights.
When I was leaving someone stopped to ask for directions, and he told them to wait, but before he went to help them, he checked their plates through the radio.. He was one sick suspicious puppy…
He marked mine as a moving violation, so I think I might be able to get it written off (this is just wishfull thinking since expired plates are a non-moving violation
I just got one the other day. It's $217.00... at least in Redmond.
There are 5 plates that interact with Washington State
you will get a ticket
In the state of California, the cost for a ticket for an expired registration is $280. However if the registration is paid immediately, the charge may be dismissed if a small administration fee is paid.
Yes. Regardless of the state where your car is registered, if the plates are expired you can be stopped.
i bet it is different from state to state but no you cant go to jail for expired tags you can get a ticket. but if your tags are expired and you put a year sticker that dose not belong you can go to jail for fraud.

When an individual drives on expired tags in Maryland, there will not be a penalty fee. It is illegal to drive with expired tags, however. Registration renewal can be completed over the phone, by mail or online.
