Delete anchor point. Choose Direct Selection Tool, click on path to show all anchor points, then click on one (where You want to open path) to select it. Selected anchor point is filled with black. Then hit Backspace or Delete. If Your path have only few anchor points this will delete big portion of path, so use Add Anchor Point tool to add two anchor points, one above and one below anchor point where You want to split (open) path. Click on middle anchor point (after creating two addition) to select it (in other words to become filled with black) then hit Backspace.
Titanic has five anchors. She has the ones on the port and starboard side, the large anchor on her bow, and she also had two kedge anchors. One kedge anchor was located on the forecastle on the starboard side just behind the breakwater and one located on the poop deck.

A ship is held in position by the weight of the chain laying on the bottom. The anchor is used to grab on the bottom when laying anchor. After the anchor is down, several lengths of chain is paid out. The weight of the chain is what holds the ship. The circumstances determine how much chain is needed and which type of anchor to use. Therefore they don't BOTH need to be very long.
Not that I know of...a lot of people get anchor tattoos to show that they're "grounded" - that their life is stable and fulfilling. Others get them because they have a nautical profession, or to show that they are, or were, in the Navy. And still others get them because they look cool.
The average modern day anchor on medium sized ships is about 60 tons. The average anchor on a large ship is about 100 tons.
