It depends, of course, on what sort of meal you want, and it also depends on which country you happen to be in. Assuming you mean a restaurant meal of reasonable quality, typical prices in the UK would be GBP 7 to GBP 15 for a main course and GBP 3 to GBP 7 for a starter or dessert. So, for three courses you could be looking at GBP 13 to GBP 29. But you can, of course, pay a lot more in the sorts of places that get very well reviewed or are run by Celebrity Chefs.

Prices are a little higher in some other European countries, particularly Scandinavian ones. They're a bit lower in former eastern bloc countries such as Poland and the Czech Republic.

Look out for early-evening pre-theatre deals. These typically offer two courses at a fixed price. In France particularly, most restaurants offer fixed-price menus all evening, though they're more expensive than they used to be.
