It depends on the car. Most vehicles already have the potential to be "fast" with there current setup without having to install a different engine. Also power isn't the only factor in making a car "fast". Gear ratios in the transmission, transaxle, or rear differential all come into play, along with suspension if you want your car to be able to hug turns at high speeds. Another thing to consider is that most vehicles these days are almost completely computer controlled and these parts can be modified for more power out, faster acceleration and higher top speeds by just reprogramming or installing a computer chip.
