A car engine is technically a heat engine that has no energy of its own but it converts the chemical energy in the fuels into heat and then into kinetic energy by turning a rotating shaft.
The chemicals that react to make the engine work consists of carbon and hydrogen from the gasoline in the fuel tank, and oxygen taken from the atmosphere. The carbon reacts with oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and heat, while the hydrogen reacts with oxygen to produce water and heat.
The engine doesn't have to use as much fuel when the car is traveling downhill.
The chemical energy is transformed in kinetic energy.
Chemical energy transforms to kinetic energy which makes the car move.
Heat
kinetic energy is created
Chemical Energy into Mechanical Energy
heat and sound
It starts the engine
Chemical energy is being converted to thermal energy which is then converted to mechanical energy and finally to kinetic energy which moves the car. Kinetic energy is then converted to thermal energy in the brakes to stop the car.
The chemical energy (the fuel) turns into kinetic energy (the car moving) and heat energy(given off by burning fuel).

The purpose of adding oil to a car i to lubricate the engine. if the engine is not lubricated there will be much more friction between gears and friction generates heat. because energy is needed to create heat that energy is taken away from the energy that would be propelling the car forward. this causes the efficiency yo drop.
