A drop at a time while mixing to achieve desired result. It only takes a little, it is surprisingly strong.

Actually you shouldn't add water at all apparently. The best way to liquefy the powdered colours is to use gin or vodka, the alchohol will evaporate as the icing sets.

How do you make pink with food coloring?

Fondant, as you probably know, needs to be kept pliable but not too loose. Adding regular liquid food colouring tends to make the fondant too soft and adding more icing sugar just lightens up the colour. For a good intense "hot pink" you will need to get to your closest supplier of cake decorating supplies and purchase the paste food colour. It comes in a small container (which you should be able to by separately). Mix in a small amount, knead the fondant (use gloves, no one need hot pink hands) and add more food colouring until you reach your desired intensity.

Can you add food coloring to play dough?

Are you talking about bread form the store or bread you're baking from scratch? You can colour homemade bread with food colouring, just add it to the water in your mix. But if you try to colour already baked bread with food colouring, it will just go soggy. You could try softening up some butter and adding your food colouring to that before you butter your bread though. That would work.

What happens if you add too much food colouring to icing?

People will not eat it, throw it out and start again. It is not a good idea to use food coloring (they are unnecessary chemicals - why should people want to eat chemicals) but if you must, pour it into a spoon before adding it to the dish, that way you can control the amount added.

Why is food coloured?

Food coloring is added to make the product the "correct" color in the consumer's eye. For instance, the berries in Cap'n Crunch Berries are not red, blue and purple due to the flavor ingredients - they are colored by food coloring. The same is true of certain processed meat products, particularly bologna and hot dogs. Most times during the preparation of the food, the original colouring is lost
