The owners manual shows : For the 1997 Ford F-250 ( light duty ) 4.2 L - V6 engine ( 205 horsepower ) 4.6 L - V8 engine ( 210 horsepower ) 5.4 L - V8 engine ( not shown , but in 1998 was rated at 235 horsepower ) For the 1997 Ford F-250 ( heavy duty ) The horsepower is not shown for the 5.8 L - V8 and 7.5 L - V8 engines
The 4.0 L - OHV - V6 engine is rated at 160 horsepower in the 1996 Ford Explorer , and I believe the 5.0 L - V8 engine is rated at 215 horsepower
That year came with the 5.3 L v8 and it has 289 horsepower and 11000 lbs of torque

I believe the 4.6 L is 220 horsepower
In a 1997 Ford F-150 the 4.6 L - SOHC - V8 was rated at : 210 horsepower at 4400 RPM and 290 Ft-Lbs torque at 3250 RPM according to the owners manual

According to my Consumer Guide book : The 4.6 litre V8 engine in a ( 2002 ) Ford F-150 is rated at ( 220 horsepower ) from the factory ( I assume the 2001 would have the same horsepower rating )
