"character " of the VIN is an " F "
( 150 horsepower at 3200 RPM and 270 ft. lbs. torque at 2000 RPM )
( 210 horsepower from the factory ) for the 1987 Ford Mustang GT with the 302 ( 5.0 liter ) high output . The 8th " character " of the VIN is an " M "
220 horsepower for the high output 302 in a 1988 Ford Mustang

There is no such thing as a 1972 Boss 302 mustang. They were made in 1969 and 1970. They had 290 horsepower but it was (according to some at Ford) under-rated.
