From what I have read in the shop manuals for the 1979 and 1980 Exciters, there was a change between those 2 years where the CDI was not interchangeable due to the timing. So, I'm not sure how well it would run if you used one from a 1978 Exciter in a 1981 Exciter, or if you would eventually burn down the motor. However, if you have installed one, and it is working, then that's great.
It depend on condition of bike but now a day we can get this about 1000-1600$.

The VIN is normally on the headstock tube.On most Yamaha Motorcycles the VIN is on a plate on the head stem of the motorcycle. It may not be immediately apparent as first glance. Try turning the handlebars all the way to the left or right, this should make the VIN plate more visible. All modernYamaha Motorcycle VIN are a standard 17 characters long. If your Yamaha is pre 1981 it will have a 9-digit VIN.
On American database carfax as J=Japan, Y=Yamaha, A=Motorcycle, 10th Digit B=1981. Speak to a Yamaha main dealership they are most helpful and will do the full decode for free. Possibly a Maxim 700 cruiser? PLEASE CHECK THE DISCUSSIONS
