I don't have an answer to this question; I just have a question. Why would you want to stop the natural cleansing process of the uterus? If you're having extreme pain, there has got to be something else going on. This doesn't seem to be the place for answering that question. You should be talking with your gyn-ob doctor because some further investigation needs to be done. Good luck!

This use of ibuprofen is most common when patients have breakthrough bleeding on Depo Provera, or heavier bleeding with the Paragard IUD. Typically, ibuprofen for this purpose is prescribed at higher than over-the-counter doses (usually 800 mg three times daily with food); however, you should talk with your health care provider to make sure it's safe for you to take this higher dose.

the purpose of ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory/ anti-pain agent which is often recommended to help with cramps during a woman's period. ibuprofen cannot stop a period from occurring.
Having a regular monthly period is important for hormonal regulation, as well as bone health. If you find that your period is excessively painful, or prolonged, you should find a gynecologist and express your concerns.
