The coin is just a 2008 James Monroe presidential dollar, the dual date is his term in office. It's a dollar, spend it.
There were no dollar coins minted in those years.
Sorry, no US dollar coins dated 1817
No U.S. one dollar gold coins were made in 1817. The first was issued in 1849. Look at the coin again and post new question.
If the coin is about the size of a quarter and has a picture of the Statue of Liberty on the back, it's not from 1817 and it's not gold. It IS a dollar though. It's one of the new $1 coins issued as part of the Presidential dollars series. These coins are made of brass and have the minting date inscribed on the coin's edge. "1817" is part of the dates served by the president depicted on the coin, either James Madison (1809-1817) or James Monroe (1817-1825). Hundreds of millions have been minted so they're neither rare nor valuable. Go ahead and spend it.

Not gold or old. The date 2008 is on the edge of the coin and it's made from brass. The dual dates 1825-1829 are the years John Quincy Adams served as president. It's just a dollar.
Those are the years Adams was President. It's a modern presidential dollar, minted in 2008, and is worth one dollar.
