8-18-11>>> All error coins need to be seen for an accurate assessment. Take it to a coin dealer. This may be a fairly uncommon error caused when two planchets (blanks) go into the the coining press at the same time, producing two coins, one with the obverse and one with the reverse. Most of the time this causes damage to the coins because usually it breaks one or both of the dies. Unfortunately most coins like this have been altered out side of the mint. It will have to be weighed and measured to see if it's a genuine mint error. If it's real, value is $10.00 and up depending on condition.
It depends on the year and condition of the penny. If it is from any time in the 1950s or later, it is most likely worth nothing to collectors - so it is worth face value (1 cent). All the D means is that is is made in the Denver mint.

It's just a common penny with no added value.
A 1944 copper misprint wheat penny is worth 1,000,000 dollars.
On the 1969 S penny a doubling of the print makes it very valuable ($35 000)
There are many different types of errors that can happen when a coin is struck. Most are very common and add nothing to the value of a coin, but some types of errors can more valuable. All error coins need to be seen for an accurate assessment. Take the coins to a coin dealer for an idea of value. NOTE: Coins are minted or struck, paper money is printed.
Nothing.
There are no ridges on a US Penny or the US Nickel, the edges are smooth.
If you mean a "D" under the date, it's not an error, it's the Denver mintmark were the coin was made.
Look at it and then look at another one from 1944. If there is a difference that is not damage to the coin since it left the mint, then perhaps there is an error on it.
marks & spencers
it is going to get cleaner and smooth
Time and bacteria can sometimes leave marks on coins.
Nothing.
All modern pennies are made out of zinc. If you are thinking of a 1943 steel penny that is a very common coin that is worth at most a dollar. If you have a 1942 steel penny that is a misprint error made by the mint and is very valuable. (be sure to have it certified by multiple sources including NGC) I hope that this helps.
