What is the value of a 2 and a half dollar gold coin?

$2.50 gold coins were struck from 1796 to 1929 at about a half dozen mints so you have to be MUCH more specific. Please post a new question with the coin's date, how worn it is, and whether you can find a small mint mark on the back side, usually under the eagle.

How do you know your silver half dollars are worth more than face value?

The simple answer is that ANY US silver coin dated 1964 or earlier, and any US half dollar dated 1970 or earlier, will automatically be worth much more than face value. By 2011 the price of silver has gone up 25 to 30 times what it was back in 1964, so at that price the raw metal value of any silver half is $12 to $15 depending on the current spot price. Of course any dealer or "we buy old coins" place will pay wholesale, but you can get about 20 times face value. HOWEVER ... many older halves (1940 and before) can be worth more to a collector depending on their condition and mint mark. It's a really bad idea to take them to a metal buyer without first finding out what their collector value is.

How much is a 1994 quarter with a mint mark p worth?

25 cents, it is in common circulation. The P means it was struck at the Philidelphia mint which strikes a lot of the coins intended for circulation. It is not struck in any precious metals and isn't worth more than any other quarter you'd randomly find in your pocket change.

How much are four silver nickels worth?

As of 11/2015 US war nickels are worth 75 cents to a dollar in average condition. Coins in better condition can be worth $2 or more, depending on their date, mint mark, and the amount of wear. War nickels were made from late 1942 to 1945 and can be identified by a large mint mark (P, D, or S) over the dome of Monticello. They're composed of 35% silver, 56% copper, and 9% manganese. Nickel was eliminated because it was needed for the war effort. All other US nickels, regardless of date, are made of an alloy of 75% copper and 25% nickel.
