I got a ticket on I-87 in Albany catched with 79 mile/hr in a zone of 65. The fine is $220 USD (165 + 55, Fine + SurChg). Please beware on I-87, too many dogs.
I got mine on I-88 in near Kirkwood NY for driving 83 in 65 zone. I got fine 195 (140 + 55 surcharge). I don't know what surcharge is. Also the ticket charge sheet doesn't say how many points they will deduct from my license.
Not enough apparently since you seem to have been doing 80 in a 55 mph zone. You are very lucky you didn't kill or injure someone. I hope they put you in jail for 30 days after you pay the fine.
Too bad you aren't a Virginia resident caught speeding in VA where the fine is something like $3550.
I think New York adds an extra $450 which is NOT ENOUGH to pay for killing or injuring someone.
^^
Obviously the person who answered above has no idea what they are talking about. The speed limits are 50 years outdated at LEAST and the prevailing traffic speed on many of these New York highways is 75. So, by going 80, the person did not 'endanger anyone' recklessly. That is 5 miles an hour over the speed of traffic at most, and at the bottom of a hill its often the speed traffic is going at. The poster just got unlucky. I have observed by cautious driving parents going 75-80 in a 55 when traffic is moving that way because the limit dropped from 65 with no change in the road. It is safer to drive at the speed of traffic. Going 55 would have been way more reckless than going 80, most likely. Original answer was self righteous. The law is in error, not the driver. I have no problem with reasonable speed limits sometimes, but some are just silly.
You may want to contact a lawyer. Delay the court date as much as possible. Perhaps get it transferred to another jurisdiction if possible; this can make the officer less likely to show up.
While driving it is important to follow the rules of the road and drive the speed limit. For going 15 over the speed limit a person will have a speeding ticket of $150 to $200 depending on court fees and city taxes.
I'm not sure about New York, but most places, the fines for tickets and violations are usually set by the municipality and usually vary somewhat from town to town and county to county. I would recommend that you call the Magistrate's Office and they can give you the fine for the area where you were ticketed.
It's going to vary depending on where you received your ticket and other factors such as wearing your seatbelt.
Fine for violation are determined by individual municipalities. Rates are different is every town. There is not even a Statewide standard and certainly not a Nationally.
That will depend on the speeding laws in the jurisdiction that issued the ticket. Each city, town and state can set their own penalties.
