It depends on where you're initially traveling from as well as your means of transportation. If you're traveling from London, it will be a lot more expensive than if you were traveling from San Francisco. Also, will you be driving or flying? A flight from SF to LA is pretty much the same price as driving (taking into account you buying gas and food on the road trip). However, a flight from NY to LA would be a little more reasonable than driving.
