Tanaka? Admiral Tanaka commanded the "Tokyo Express" going the "down the slot" at Guadalcanal in '42. The "Tokyo Express" was Admiral Tanaka's destroyers going full speed ahead at nights reinforcing, then later, withdrawing Japanese ARMY troops on the islands of Guadalcanal (he got away with it too!). Tanaka also defeated US warships during a destroyer duel at the Battle of Tassafforonga in the same general area. Now, this wouldn't be Admiral Tanaka's rifle, would it?
It's Japanese, and the rifle uses the 7.7x58mm Arisaka cartridge.
The Arisaka Type 38 Rifle and the Arisaka Type 44 Rifle both used a 6.5 mm bullet whereas the Arisaka Type 99 Rifle used a 7.7 cartridge . The Nambu Type 14 Handgun used an 8 mm cartridge .
