to RUN in a head gasket,u torque the head bolts to specs.you then run engine for specified amount of time, then again torque head bolts to specs. most shop manuels will give you 2 toque settings.
remove the 10mm bolts from the edges and clean all surfaces VERY CLEAN and replace gasket and then torque the bolts back not sure of the lbs to torque to good luck it is not hard to do

You risk breaking the bolts, or crushing the gasket to the point where it will not seal.
The head bolts will not have the same clamping capabilities, since they were stretched on the first installation. You may blow a head gasket due to the bolts losing torque.
Drain oil. Remove pan and catch remaining old oil. Remove old gasket material off mating surfaces. Ensure surfaces are properly cleaned and coat each surface with black silicone (or equivilant). Install pan with gasket in proper position. Properly torque bolts*. *If you are not familiar with how to torque bolts, and/or you do not have torque wrench, you can tighten bolts as if you were making them as tight as you can with a screwdriver (without leverage). Do not overtighten because it can damage gasket.
The short bolt torque specs for the head gasket of a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire is 43 foot pounds. The torque specs for long bolts is 46 foot pounds.
you are suppose to replace head bolts they stretch and head will not torque right. When you buy the new gasket, order new bolts.
Torque for valve cover bolts is 7 to 10 ft. Lbs . Tighten the bolts in a criss-cross pattern .
