I believe your rifle is a Marlin Model 80 made for Sears.
No published sn data; 50-100
no. The J C Higgins brand was not used until much later.
Your rifle is a Marlin Model 80. They were made from 1934 up thru 1969. No serial number indicates made before 1968. Early rifles had open sights, later had a rear peep sight.
Sears used Model 36 for two different .22 rifles. The BOLT ACTION is a Marlin Model 80, the SEMIAUTO is a High Standard Model 34. Value of any firearm is dependent on condition. The "store brand" firearms such as JC Higgins, Revelation, Westerfield, etc, frequently were a slightly lower grade than the original (Hardwood stocks instead of walnut, plainer finish, etc) and usually command 10-25% less. However, the additional matching accessories should cancel that. In good to excellent condition, either rifle would sell at retail for $100-$180.
Depends on condition, accessories, box, manual, etc.. Range from 150-300 USD.
15-125 usd
I checkd 3 large databases for cross reference of the original makers of firearms sold by Sears (JC Higgins was their house brand) None of the 3 show a model 40 rifle. Can you please recheck markings, and repost? An experienced gunsmith can probably identify make from the appearance.
JC Higgins sold over 50 different BB and pellet guns/rifles over the years. They were made by Crosman and Daisy. You need to give more information like the model number in order to identify the air gun.
The J C Higgins model 41 /103 19770 Was made by Marlin Firearms.1959 .103 is the Sears vendor code for Marlin .The model 41 is the same as the the Marlin Glenfield model 10. These are very nice little rifles that are well known for accuracy.
