stars are made up off plasma, which is gas that is so hot that the electrons in it move around freely.

because of this high temperature and crushing gravity inside stars and our sun the hydrogen atoms in its core are fused together forming helium, this is what gives the star its energy and heat.

It is expanding. The strange thing is, it is expanding faster and faster, which is the opposite of what scientists once expected. They are still trying to discover the why and how of this mystery.

The most common type of energy/mass in the Universe is in the form of dark energy, followed by dark matter. Only about 4% of the Universe is in the form of "normal" (baryonic) matter. If it is specifically to this matter you refer: the most common state of matter is plasma, found in stars.

Plasma, the fourth state of matter other than solid, liquid and gas, definitely covers about more than 85% of the universe. It is an ionized gas, found mainly in stars and in space.

What shows the galaxies expanding?

Yes ...why.. well there is a theory that once the universe was as small as a match's red head? i don't know what it's called what ever...so when that bead explodes and it expands. and scientists believe that it keeps expanding. Another question you should ask your self is if that the universe was that small what was around it? answer it cause i wanna know and hope this helps!

Will the universe ever begin to contract?

It doesn't seem so. There is evidence that the expansion is accelerating (the Universe is expanding faster than in the past). The reason for this is still somewhat of a mystery; do an Internet search on "dark energy" for more details.

What does the universe expanding mean?

The distance between galaxies is increasing, pretty much in all directions. This suggests that space itself is expanding. We also now know the rate of expansion is in fact increasing.

What evidence supports the pulsating universe theory?

the pulsating universe theory is when the universe expands (the big bang) then contracts (the big crunch) and so on (it's pulsating). according to this theory right now the universe is expanding, but then it will contract

Which possibility is more likely The Big Crunch or Eternal Universe?

I am not quite sure there is anything officially called "Eternal Universe" by astronomers. If you mean that it continues expanding eternally, this currently seems to be the most likely scenario, since the Universe is not only expanding, but the expansion is speeding up (it expands faster now than in the past), and there is no particular reason to believe that the expansion will slow down.

When the universe is expanding?

the universe is expanding continuously even right now as you read this little sentence I wrote.

Is the universe growing in all directions even now?

Yes; it is expanding right now, as can be seen in the redshift of distant galaxies.

Can the continued expansion of black holes lead to the end of the universe?

Expanding black holes don't mean the end of the universe. It is true that we don't know enough about the universe to be able to see an "end" in sight. But right now the universe is expanding, and the immense gravity of even black holes (and other matter) doesn't seem to be slowing it up at all.

How did the size of the universe change?

In the immediate aftermath of the "Big Bang" there was rapid inflation of the universe. That slowed and the universe is now believed to be still, slowly, expanding.

What does the red shift tell us about the changing universe?

Mainly that the Universe is expanding. Analyzing far-away galaxies, it has recently become clear that the expansion is accelerating - the Universe is now expanding faster than a few billion years ago.

Is the universe imploding or explording?

What i think is that its doing both at the same time. You see the universe is constantly imploding and exploding in many ways. Stars explode yet the particles of the explosion implode and help form other stars. Now we can take this information and think of it in many ways. Is the universe constantly expanding to the point in which it will become to much for itself and eventually implode and then explode into what we call the universe today. Even steven hawking said that "The universe is ever expanding and what he theorizes is that eventually the universe will grow so much it will implode or continue expanding. but as we see with the stars we constantly imploding and exploding we could only assume the same of the universe

How long is space and how wide?

no one is quite sure where the universe begins or ends but what they do know is that the universe is continuously expanding. they also believe that one day probably a trillion years from now that it will stop expanding and shrink and then we will have another big bang.
