An orange is really only alive while it is on the tree and growing. Once it comes off the tree, in the same year it began, it is no longer said to be living. An orange tree can live as long as 100 years, and will produce fruit for much of that time.
About 1 1/2 cup of water. This is true because the tree needs to absorb the water fast and 1 1/2 will do the job
I think the best way to look at this is that Sherman's Neckties were part of Shermans March to the Sea.Sherman's March to the Sea was a very controversial and risky gambit on the part of the North. Many advisors in the military did not approve of this tactic, as they felt it would benefit the South by taking Sherman's large, gathered army and split it up into smaller groups that would be vulnerable to the kind of quick, guerilla attacks that the large, consolidated army would not be prone to. If it failed, it would leave Sherman's massive army fractured throughout the South. Conversely, Sherman's intent with his March was to march to the sea in a wide swathe, leaving the general non-military public pillaged and under the (mostly correct) impression that the Southern army was too weak and small to truly protect it. It was meant to break the South's spirit of reistance.A Sherman's Necktie was a tactic to cripple the South's rail system. In small groups, Northern soldiers would remove a section of rail, build a large bonfire, heat it as hot as they could, place the middle of the railroad tie in the middle, thus making it maleable, and bend it around a large tree or other large, immoveable object, thus rendering it unusuable. Previously, they simply damaged the railroad sections, which the South would quickly move in to repair as soon as they had left. This tactic forced the south to actually replace the section, costing valuable resources, material and time.
