The 1991 Honda Prelude has an interference engine. If the belt breaks serious engine damage will occur. Replace the belt at 90,000 miles. As the water pump is driven by the same belt, also replace the pump at the same time to avoid future labor costs.

You change the timing belt at 100,000 km. you can do it at 90,000 just to be on the safe side. If it breaks you can bend your valves
The timing may be off. If the timing belt is old then the gears can slip and cause backfiring, or the engine to not run at all.

my 91 Honda prelude 4ws si with 2.1 engine had high idle in park. then my timing belt went put a new belt on hasn't done it yet!!! I do not fix them, I bring it to the dealer and let them fix it.
