thermostat may be sticking and that cause the gauge to show hot, have it checked soon, you could be headed for bigger problems
It doesn't matter. A thermostat is a non-serviceable item. If it is bad, you replace it. That probably isn't your problem though.
Your question would be better answered if reposted including the year of your car.
Follow the top radiator hose, to where it intersects with the motor. This would be the thermostat housing. Remove this, and the thermostat will be exposed.
Must be sticking, replace the thermostat.
You would have to find the workshop manual. Many large libraries carry them.

I would start with checking your thermostat and thermostat housing. See if its regulating. If it is not replace the thermostat.

I would replace the thermostat. This sounds like the thermostat is stuck open.
My first guess would be a thermostat stuck open. Replace the thermostat.
