You need slightly more as you get older, a lot less when you're younger - except for females in puberty who need 50mg more than they need in adulthood.

While this is the RDA, please be aware that not all of what you take from a supplement is absorbed into your body. Medications and diseases have been shown to leave a body wanting of magnesium as well - even if you get the RDA.
