Life patterns, such as stress, too much sleep or not enough, weather changes, and bright lights could also trigger an attack. It seems like there are so many causes of a migraine attack, and not enough ways to bring relief. Besides taking medications for migraines, there are also natural ways that could bring migraine relief. Massage is one technique that can relieve a severe migraine headache. This can be done by a professional who knows where the right pressure points are to remove the pain. Once you learn the pressure points, you can even learn to do it yourself. There are also some herbs and minerals that work well for migraine relief. Feverfew is an herb that’s been used for several hundred years to treat bad headaches as well as other types of pain. Anything that contains magnesium can also reduce the severity of an attack. Butterbur is another herb that has been used to treat migraines.

Pain medicine and medications that work on pain receptors often are the cause of Migraineurs becoming affected by another condition called Medication Overuse Headache (MOH) also known as rebound. Unfortunately, DHE, triptans, butalbital, tylenol, NSAIDs, opioids (narcotics) and many other medicines can also cause the changes in the brain that result in MOH. Additionally, these medicines are known to be a part of the transition from episodic Migraine (occasional attacks) to chronic Migraine (headache 15 or more days per month). Certain members of this group of medicines such as butalbital and acetaminophen are known for being especially bad at causing MOH and transformation from episodic to chronic Migraine and should be avoided. Stress has been removed by the International Headache Society as a trigger for Migraine. Butalbital, is very effective in combination with asperin or tylenol, especially for migraines caused by stress.

What is best painkiller for migraine. I can't take Ibuprofen?
I suffered from migraines for years and tried all kinds of prescription drugs. A couple of years ago, a friend told me to try Ibuprofen, which I reluctantly did. I did not for a minute think it would work, but every time I feel a migraine coming on, I just take two Ibuprofen and it subsides. Years of suffering and a simple tablet like that sorted it out.
