Theoretically - you can take any amount out... BUT - (a) you must declare any amount over £1,000 and - more importantly (b) you must be able to prove you obtained the money legally. If you cannot prove the money is legally yours, and you obtained it legitimately - the money can be seized until your return, when you will be investigated by HMRC.
