Unknown. Chichen Itza was a Mayan city founded on the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico between 750 and 900 AD. It "collapsed" around 1250 AD but remained as a pilgrimage site by the Mayan people until 1531 when that area of the peninsula was conquered by Spanish conquistadors.
