How much do ESL teachers get paid? In general teachers are very under paid in comparision to their education. Elementary School level is from about 30,000 through 60,000, salary depends on the state and county you will be teaching in. JC level ESL teachers generally are better paid but require 2 years teaching abroad. Traveling teachers that teach abroad can sometimes make very good money depending on where and what is included in the contract package offered. An example: In China a teacher may get a salary of about $1,000 and may or may not get a full paid air ticket home each year and apartment, but in Saudi Arabia you may get $2,000 - $3,000 per month, full paid airfare once a year and a free fully furnished apartment with free water, AC, and electricity. Also free transportation, free medical and tuition for dependents.
AnswerIn Texas there is a Texas Education Agency minimum state base that all teachers get paid based on their years of experience. Each school district can, and most do, offer LOCAL pay stipends for all teachers, and additional supplements for specialty areas. ESL and and Spanish generally are considered hard to fill areas. The district I work for pays an additional $1500 per year for a Spanish teacher and has paid as high as $3000. ESL is averaged at $1,500 per year additional.ESL teachers in Mexico make a fixed income if they are working for a school. 5 to 10 dollars an hour if they are working for an American school in Mexico and 2 to 6 dollars an hour when hired by a Mexican school. The pay varies from region to region.
If the ESL teacher is not employed by a school, they don't make a fixed income. The pay depends on how many students show up to class. Normally ESL teachers charge 10 to 30 pesos (2-3 dollars) per student per day. There isn't a lot of demand for ESL teachers in Mexico as much as there is in the United States.
