It depends some are really exspensive and some have very reasonable prices . You can also get some very small sets for about 4-5 dollars and the really big sets are usually 60-100 dollars even. Like the LEGO cargo plane, its about 60 dollars. And like the Lego fire station it about 84 dollars(both plus tax).
Best to start with a Basic set of components and an instruction book, often available used at garage sales etc. Later, you can spend the Big Bucks on models as above.
It all depends on what you're buying. The sets Lego produce are usually priced by their piece count. But the materials used for the pieces, and how big they are, is also a factor.
