It all depends on what you are downloading. There are some free stuff such as demos for games, themes and a couple of free songs for Rock Band.. :) But if you are planning on downloading games, then yes you will have to purchase them. Look at the bright side, the ps3 network is free!!

∙ 12y agoThe answer is no the PlayStation Network or PSN will always be free. Some people have been getting messages through your PSN ID. These messages are confirmed to be fake. Sony announced that the PlayStation Network will remain free. But In the Future the company may need to bring it in

and yes it is free for the demos and most likely of the stuff but most of oyu will have to pay for like full games and themes
