For a while it was rumoured that their ex-bassist Glen Matlock was brought in as a session musician but this has been refuted by both Matlock and engineer Bill Price. It is generally regarded that guitarist Steve Jones overdubbed the bass parts after the initial guitar / drum tracks were recorded. Sid Vicious is rumoured to have attempted bass parts for the songs "Bodies" and "Submission" but was unable to play to a satisfactory standard. It is rumoured that his bass part is hidden deep in the mix on the album version of "Bodies" and on the alternate take of "Submission" featured on the Box Set. On both tracks Steve Jones bass parts are the only prominent ones to be heard.
