Technically there's no US coin called a half penny; they were actually half cents.


Half cents were first minted in 1793 and discontinued in 1857. The value of these coins are any where from $15.00 to as high as $35,000.00. The value of any one coin is based on type, year, and on condition.

According the recent paper published Sri Mishra fro IIT Kharagpur, it costs around 8.8 Rs to manufacture a 5 rupee coin. Strange it may seem, but the denomination valueis less tha actual value....Looks like Tuglak times are back!

The coin is actually a "Statue of Liberty Centennial" half dollar. None were struck in silver it is a clad coin. It was issued as Proof and Uncirculated and both are very common with the same average retail value of $5.00.
