Anywhere from $1 to $20 per ticket for a scratch off in the United States. It just depends on which game you play. Also, the more a ticket costs, the more money you can win in the game. Tickets for games that are drawn generally cost $1.00 per play, with some games having multiplier options, which cost an additional $1.00 per game.

In the United States alone, just over $100 billion is gambled annually at casinos and other legal places. That breaks down to roughly $950 per household as of 2012. Most interestingly, this does not account for money spent gambling illegally, which is estimated to be as much as $200 million.

Lottery sales continue to increase every year as more states join the two big lottery pools: PowerBall and MegaMillions. The most recent data I've seen is that lottery players spent around $65 billion a year. While this is disposable money that might have been spent on goods and services, thus helping a wider economic market, lottery sales help states avoid tax increases - something we all should be grateful for.
