US nickels minted from 1866 to mid-1942 and 1946 to the present are made of an alloy of 25% nickel and 75% copper. The weight of a standard nickel is 5.0 gm so that means it contains 1.25 gm of nickel.

"Nickels" minted during WWII didn't contain any nickel because it was needed for the war effort. These coins contained 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese; they're the only US nickels that ever contained any silver.
