The factory service manual states to use 10w-40 for normal operating condition of the motorcycle. But depending on how the 2005 Gsx-r is being used the type of oil can change.

change your motor oil. i would get it running and sell this 98. take the money and invest in a 86 gsxr 750 or 1100 .
3.6 Litres, and allow another 0.2 litres for the capacity of the oil filter if doing an oil change...
Remove the plug on the bottom of the oil pan. Allow the motor oil to drain out. Replace the plug to its original position. Fill the motor with oil.
When you change the oil on a 2003 GSXR 600, you need 3.0 quarts of oil if you do not change the oil filter. If you change the filter, you need 3.3 quarts of oil.

hey i don't know how long this thread has been up but i don't have a direct answer for you but i can help you attain that answer. under the oil cap there is going to be a value engraved on the cover(in mL). mine(2005 gsxr 750) is 2800mL. i just went to this website, http://www.worldwidemetric.com/metcal.htm, and scroll down to the volume section and type your volume amount in the mL section and click convert on the far right. then look at how many quarts your mL is worth. best of luck!
