First of all, I am NOT AN EXPERT but in my 50 years of consuming liquids, common sense goes a long way.
I believe the combination of water, Orange Juice, and milk are important for one's digestive and immune system. There is no "magical" quantity that will suit everyone and there are several variables that need to be considered. Your age, region of the country, physical activity, consumption of alcohol (more than 3 daily drinks) and how "your" digestive system processes these liquids.
YOU know your body so you usually stay away from liquids that disrupt it (milk or dark sodas). If you are very active in sports or work outside, you will need more liquids than an office employee who lives in the Northern region on the country.
Years ago, I lived in Arizona and worked outside. I would drink 2 or 3 glasses of water in the morning and continue to drink water throughout the day. Amazing as it sounds, my body absorbed the water so fast that I didn't sweat or urinate until the end of the day. Being as sensitive as possible, your body will let you know if you are meeting appropriate amounts of liquid based on the scent or color of your urine. Your body's digestive system will keep what it needs and automatically get rid of excessive nutrients. Based on the recommended daily allowance table, my body does well with just 6 ounces of O.J., 6 ounces of milk and several glasses of water (between 4 to 8 per day). I believe excessive liquids will disrupt the body natural digestive system. Let 's just say, you cannot process milk (lactose issues).....then take a calcium pill. Don't go years without calcium, your bones will be so fragile that a simple fall in your senior years will shatter hips/arms/legs bones. One glass of orange juice is sufficient, it keeps your immune system active and it won't fight your natural acids in your stomach, excessive O.J. will generate too much acid and small sores may form on the inside of your mouth. Bottom line, start the day off with small quantities of milk or juice (even 1 or 2 ounces) and slowly increase them until YOUR body feels good. One more thing, a simple vitamin will help our bodies without breaking the bank at the grocery store.
