It depended on what social class their family belonged to. If their parents worked in a factory or mine, then they mostly worked too so there was little time to play. Children who lived on farms would have had their chores such as helping with the harvest. Girls were expected to help their mothers with housework and other tasks. If their parents belonged to the middle or upper class then there would have been more time to play but those children still had their responsibilities, such as attending or school or being tutored.
