i have a 98 gtp and have replaced the tranny 2 times, and im awating the third so i can have an excuse to put my new raptor unit in.... :) but to anwser your question, the 4t65e-hd is rated by gm to handle the power a stock gtp produses (240hp/280tq) the real thing is it depends on a variety of factors, (ie tranny cooler, maitnance schedule, tranny filter, etc...) most importantly how much power you want it to handle, and in turn how often your right foot spasams and accidentlly launches your car 1/4 mile before you realize and correct it. :)
no, the gt has a 4t60e transmission and the gtp has a 4t65e-hd transmission which is built to handle more power than the t60. t65-hd is a better tranny
Our 1998 GTP has 240 hp
what is the part no# for a replacement transmission filter, for a 2001 Pontiac gtp grand prix . Also how much transmission fluid does it take to change.thank you Tim
The 1997-2003 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP is equipped with the 4T65E-HD "heavy duty" transmission, as opposed to the 4T65E transmission equipped in the GT model. The GTP transmission is different from the transmission in the GT in the sense that it is equipped with a different planetary gearset, and is capable of handling more power and torque. Hope this helps!
Yes
The transmission is 4T65E-HD (code MN7) It is a heavy duty version of the 4T65E wtih a heavy duty gearbox to handle the supercharger. Hope this helps. "G"
