During the summer, a lot of a wolf's diet is made up of small prey, like rabbits, mice, and other small mammals. Naturally, wolves may spend a lot of time on catching this prey so they get enough to eat. In most the winter, and sometimes in the summer, the wolves will go on long hunt in which the entire pack takes part to bring down large prey like deer, elk, caribou, moose and bison. After a large kill, it is likely wolves will not need to eat again for another five days or so.

To catch their prey, platypuses must make several hundred dives a day in order to catch enough food. They use the fine, sensitive electroreceptors on their bills, which detect the tiny electrical impulses made by underwater creatures. After locating their prey, they dig up the mud with their bill like a shovel to grasp them, crushing the creatures between grinding plates in their bills.
