It depends on the age of these calves, their weight, and what kind of silage you're feeding them. In most cases you want to try to limit grain intake until they're a few months away from the slaughter date, and instead focus on their forage rations so that they grow and fill in muscle, not put on fat. Silage should be fed as a restricted diet, which means you should only feed as much as they will eat at one "sitting." If you feed too much, they will get really picky, picking through the silage to find the good stuff and you could end up with some metabolic issues like acidosis. Feed too little, and you will also have problems such as reduction in growth and average daily gain.

There is no set-in-stone amount that you should feed to your animals. That, unfortunately, is something you may have to calculate out yourself.

How do you prepare dairy cow's food?

Silage, hay and grain is often mixed together in a tub grinder or an automatic mixer. Different portions of silage, hay and grain is mixed together for an adequate ration mix for dairy cows, with not too much hay or too much grain, but just enough of everything to have plenty of calcium, protein, fibre, and other nutrients that a dairy cow needs in her diet.

How much beef nut to feed cow?

None. Cows eat grass, hay, silage and grain, not any sort of animal meat like "beef nut."

How much dry matter is in 1 bale of silage?

Bake it so that all the moisture goes out of the feed. Then measure using a weigh scale. When you have both the weight of the feed before you bake it and after, you can calculate the % moisture in the feed.

How much should you feed a cow that weighs 800lbs and is pregnant?

More information such as type of feed (hay, grain, silage), type of cow (dairy or beef) and period of pregnancy (first, mid or last gestation) is needed before this question can be answered.

What are the feedstuffs fed to cattle?

Hay, silage, grain, pasture grass/legumes. That's just a very basic, in-a-nutshell, tip-of-the-iceberg list. Can calves drink water after they drank milk?

Yes. Water shouldn't be not limited to calves, because they need it just as much as cows do.

Will a calf gain more weight from milk or grain?

This depends upon what stage of development the calf is in. A newborn calf, up to about 4 months of age, cannot digest grain and must be fed milk. After about 6 months of age, the calf is completely swapped over to grain and cannot digest milk. In between, the calf can utilize both.Answer 2:However, unlike what was mentioned above feeding grain to calves at that age is done not all that uncommonly, and it has been noted by researchers that feeding grain to a calf will help better develop its rumen than milk or grass can. A calf may not be able to digest grass or grain as well as an adult cow because of its underdeveloped rumen, but it doesn't stop it from eating it or even experimenting. There is much debate among producers as to whether creeping the calves over to grain while still on their dams is best or not. Many say it's worth it, others disagree. Most of those producers who raise their cattle on grass/hay only will not utilize grain to help fatten or increase the weight of unweaned calves, and simply rely on the ability of the cows' to increase the calf's weights, as well as genetics. But also as mentioned above, this really depends on the weight and age of the calf.

How much do calves grow in first year?

Depends on the breed. Most calves can gain between 600 and 800 lbs in their first year.

Is to much corn bad for a cow?

Yes. A 100% corn diet will cause severe bloating, acidosis and founder in cows, all of which need human intervention to be treated. Corn is not a natural diet for cows, so forage must be fed along with the grain, like hay or silage, to aid in proper digestion.

How much do bull calves cost?

Depends on where you live and the prices themselves. Dairy bull calves will not cost much; maybe $150-$200. You won't find beef bull calves for sale. Make sure you castrate them as soon as possible so you don't have a trainwreck when they get older.
