Date and design.

Morgan dollars were struck from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921. They have a picture of Miss Liberty on the front and an eagle with spread wings on the back. The design is sort of "busy" and has a very old appearance to it.

Peace dollars were struck from late 1921 to 1935. They have a much more modern look, with the word PEACE on the back and an eagle with folded wings.

There are Morgan dollars and there are Peace dollars but they're not the same. It's a bit like asking about a "Ford Chevrolet". The good news, though, is that they're both made out of the same amount of metal:

In "new" condition each weighs 26.73 grams and is 90% silver. Thus, silver content is 24.05 grams. One troy oz is 31.10 grams. Thus, there is 0.77 troy oz of silver per dollar.

Each is a separate series of dollar coins and the designs are very different. Morgan dollars were issued from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921, the obverse (front) of the coin has a portrait of Miss Liberty with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM above her head, on the reverse the eagle has its wings spread out. The Peace dollar was also issued in 1921 to 1928 and 1934 & 1935 the obverse of this coin has the word LIBERTY above Miss Liberty's head and on the reverse the eagles wings are folded.

Morgan dollars were struck from 1878 to 1904 & for the last time 1921, Peace dollars were struck from 1921 to 1928 and 1934 and 1935. 1921 is the year most people get confused because both types have the same date. The simplest way to tell them apart is on the reverse of the Peace dollar the eagles wings are folded, the Morgan has the wings spread out.

There are a couple easy ways. Firstly, the Trade dollar features a seated woman, while the Morgan dollar is only a face. Another way is to check the date. Trades were minted 1873-85, while Morgans were 1878-1904, and again in 1921. So, anything before 1878 is Trade, and anything after 1885 is Morgan.

How do you know if it is a Morgan?

A Morgan dollar would be dated 1878-1904 or dated 1921. If you've got a silver dollar dated 1878-1904 that does not say "Trade Dollar" on the reverse, you for sure have a Morgan dollar. In practice though trade dollars are infrequently found that date from the era of the Morgan Dollar. The only other possible overlap you have is 1921. The 1921 Morgan dollar is quite common and generally sells for bullion value even in the lowest grade. On the other hand the 1921 Peace Dollar is scarce and commands a large premium over melt value, even in lower grades. The easiest way to tell if you've got a 1921 Morgan vs. a 1921 Peace dollar is to look at the reverse of the coin. If the eagle has its wings outstretched, you've got a Morgan dollar. If the eagle is perched on a rock, you've got a Peace Dollar.
