The western fringes of Japan see much more in the way of snow at higher altitudes. Mt Fuji itself accumulates a fair bit of snow annually in the magnitude of a 4-5 metres. Mt Tate in the west on the other hand gets more than double that amount. Google search "Tateyama Kurobe" for some interesting pictures.
