Archaeology is a sub-discipline of Anthropology which is a science/art concerned with the study of humanity. Therefore Archaeology covers the entirety of human history from when we evolved from Australopithicene about 4 million years ago. Most Archaeology is more concerned with the last 25,000 years though, with the origins of civilization etc.

The length of time an Archaeology dig covers can vary greatly depending on the site, the research question being investigated, and available resources. Some projects may last a few weeks, while others can span several years or even decades.
