Dry sockets usually occurs two to five days following the procedure. After five days, your mouth is usually healed enough to sustain more vigorous activity (solid foods, moderate smoking), but it CAN still occur up to two weeks after surgery, although pretty rare. Currently I'm on my fifth day of healing after extraction this past Friday and my gum tissue feels like it's healed a great bit since the surgery. Since the surgery, I drank the second night (two drinks/jello shots) and smoked a few times, but I was extremely cautious while smoking. I took small hits and didn't attempt to suck too hard (not tobacco by the way). Anyway, you should be in the clear after a week.

Is green or brown pus in the tooth socket normal after an extraction?

Most likely you have a "Dry Socket". which can occur when the the blood clot is disturbed or removed from the extraction site, or due to smoking after after having a tooth extracted. Call your dentist and describe your symptoms, most likely they will want you to be seen & treated. If indeed it is dry socket they will clean out the socket & place a medicated dressing inside the socket, which you should feel much better afterwards.Look up dry socket online a check to see if your symptoms match. see below"A dry socket, more formally referred to as alveolar osteitis by dentist, is a fairly common complication associated with tooth extractions. The formation of a dry socket involves a scenario where the blood clot which forms in the tooth's socket's after the extraction isn't properly retained (either it disintegrates by way of fibrinolysis or becomes dislodged). Since this blood clot is an important factor in protecting the boney socket and initiating the healing process, the healing of the extraction site is interrupted and becomes delayed."

Following a tooth extraction 11 days ago you can feel what appears to be part of the tooth in the socket and every time you eat or drink the socket is extremely painful is this OK?

If you still feel what may be part of your tooth left in the socket, that is not good. I would suggest seeing your dentist, or oral surgeon about this as part of your tooth may have broken in the process of the extraction. If there is no partial tooth remaining, you may have what is called dry socket, which is extremely painful.
