If the baby bird is wild and uninjured, get in old shoebox and put paper towels, straw, grass, weeds and/or leaves in it. Do not handle the baby bird with bare hands. Put on gloves or pick it up with paper towels. This will prevent you getting sick and not getting your scent on the baby bird in case the mother comes back-mother birds will not recognize the baby if it has an unfamiliar scent. Gently put it in the shoebox and poke holes on the top. Keep outside. At night, when it gets cold, close the lid and in the daytime and morning keep the lid on. Or, if preferred, tape on a cardboard roof and keep on at all times for coverage. As for feeding, wait for the mother to come back and feed, and if she doesn't, feed the birds using a medicine dropper (use after washing well). You shouldn't care for a wild baby bird unless their nest has fallen and the parents aren't around or any other reasons that might effect the birds in a negative way. If the bird is injured, take to the vet.

If the bird is bought from a store, ask a worker in the shop and he/she will be happy to help you!

make a nest out of towls and put it in a bowl and put the baby birds and the nest in a box with holes under a heat lamp.

If the baby is very young, ie no feathers, feed it cooked egg yolk(no whites) mashed up and mixed with water and give with an eye dropper.

Once he starts having feathers soak dried cat food in water until soft then feed one piece at a time pushing food into mouth , push in far or he won't swallow you'll see how far when you do it, if he spits it out you put in far enough. later you can even feed bits of apple but only when he is able to feed himself

**for wild birds and releasing them**

you can also use dog food and water mix works the same **but take note**when you are feeding you will notice a pouch on their neck, chest area. that's like their tummy when ther are hungry their chest will be smooth if it looks like a big bubble then they are full

when their really tiny no feathers i did the lamp thing, once they got feathers i just sat them near a lamp

you should feed every hour but never after dark to sick to their normal lifestyle

once their body is almost all feathers its time for a cage and some perches to help him with balance and to fly soon but streaching and grooming will be eaiser

and be sure to cover him at night like a house bird

all in all i think its a really good learning experince its always fun to show kids. one of my favrote things is looking in the pouch, because its almost see through. and you can notice air bubbles. witch im pretty sure doesnt cause any harm all the babies ive taken care of had bubbles

hope i helped

The best option is to not touch the baby sparrow - the mother sparrow is likely around but won't approach the baby after it smells like human. If you find a baby sparrow and want to take care of it, the next best option is to find a wildlife rehabilitation center or wildlife certified veterinarian to take care of it. Regardless of what is shown on TV, most families cannot successfully raise a baby sparrow.
