I was just quoted $1,300 to replace the lower oil pan on my 1998 Toyota Landcruiser. The part costs $185, but there's 13 hours of labor required at $85 per hour! Apparently, they'll need to remove the front differential in order to remove the oil pan.

I'm going to shop around for a mechanic who can do it for a lot less. That's a lot to spend on what should be an inexpensive repair. The truck is now 14 years old with nearly 220,000 miles, and I don't know if I'm willing to keep it at this point. This would be the third $1,000+ repair in the last 12 months. I recently replaced alternator, battery, and some wiring get harnesses..
