If you do it yourself, approx. $160.00 from your local auto parts dealer. It's a very simple procedure that takes less than 1 hour. Note that their could be a lead time for the Alternator so order ahead.

i would suggest replacing it with a stronger alternator other than fixing it. Yes you will spend a little more. but new is always better than fixed. Plus you can buy a much stronger alternator, (I recommend stinger), for a lil more. these come with great warranties and usually last alot longer.

an r51 alternator on a diesel costs $1900 JUST for the part, not covering labour, which would be about 2/3 hours. to go genuine would be about $2500. (2grand for alternator is retarted!)

go aftermarket!
